Scott Pilgrim vs the World Movie Review

Scott Pilgrim vs the World is an incredibly well shot Action-Romance movie about the romance between Scott Pilgrim and his crush, Ramona Flowers directed by Edgar Wright. A combination of clever writing along with interesting camera angles with some incredible fight cinematography come together to make one of the best movies made in 2010.

The opening of the movie perfectly sets the tone for the rest of the film. The movie starts with the Universal logo, as most Universal Studios movies do, but in an 8-bit art form. The music also is in an NES-type bit wave form, creating a feel of 80's nostalgia. You have to remember, this was made in 2010, before the 80's were cool. After the Universal logo, the film pans down to Steven Stills', one of Scott's band members, house with the opening to The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past faintly playing in the background. The scene starts with a few simple words that immediately set the tone of the scene. "Scott Pilgrim is dating a high-schooler?!"
This scene goes on as Scott explains to his friends that he started dating a high schooler that he met on the bus when we hear a doorbell ring. At this point we see this first instance of one of the unique touches Edgar Wright works into this movie. As the doorbell rings, we see words floating in the the air saying "DING DONG." He uses these floating words throughout the movie, giving the movie the feel of the original graphic novels.
As Scott opens the door we see knives for the first time, Scott introduces her (and us) to the band members. As she sits down, the start playing as we hear Kim Pine scream "WE ARE SEX-BA-BOMB! ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR!" As soon as they start playing the opening credits start playing to the punk rock that Scott Pilgrim and his band are playing.
This one scene sets the tone for the whole movie pretty well.

Overall, Scott Pilgrim is an excellent movie and one of my favorites that I've seen. It's on Netflix as of September. Check it out!
